NFL In Talks To Bring The Super Bowl To England...HUH? PDF Print E-mail
Written by chefcraig

According to the NFL's vice-president in charge of events Frank Supovitz, the league has been in conversation with officials from the City of London to bring the Super Bowl there, possibly as soon as 5 years from now. Florida, Texas and Indiana will host the game for the next three years. So why London? Simple. The idea is to become more global. Never mind that the World Football League, as well as NFL Europe would be kindly considered failures and in rougher terms as outright economic disasters, the NFL is once again attempting to become something it is not: International.

Apparently, the league has forgotten it's own name is the NATIONAL Football League. How does having the championship game (of a competition played in the United States) held in Europe make any sense to the fans of the sport? Why should fans of the teams participating have to purchase not only tickets to the event, yet airline tickets to another country? It's bad enough having teams play a regular season game in England the past two years, yet the idea of holding what is undoubtedly the largest sporting event yearly in the United States is nothing short of lunacy. The day is practically a national holiday, and if the NFL is far too blinded by the pursuit of greed to realize this, then perhaps Commissioner Roger Goodell should have his eyes checked.
