To the average NBA fan Derrick Rose and his 36 points, 11 Assists, and 49 minutes played might have seen a bit shocking for a rookie playing in his first NBA playoff game.
But not for this Chicagoan. See, i have been hearing about Derrick Rose since he was in the 7th grade. An AAU phenom. I really started to follow him when he made first team all city as a sophomore in high school. Then he led simeon high(a puplic school no less) to back to back state titles. No small feat considering private Chatholic schools can recruit from all over the city, and have the best of the best athletes. Yes, the kid know only as "POOH" on the city's southside, is not surprising any Chicagoan's with is first playoff game.
But it hasnt been easy up until now. After leading Memphis to the NCAA title game as a freshman,Rose had only one choice, and that was to make himself eligible for the NBA draft.
Now the Bulls had come off a 33 win season in 2008. Only a year after sweeping Miami in the first round in 2007. The team had taken a step back. they needed a impact player to get to the next level. But with only a 1.7% chance of getting the #1 pick in the draft, it did not look like that player would come anytime soon.
Well, the old ping pong ball did it's thing. and BAM! the Bulls had the #1 pick. But still debates about the #1 player went on. Michael Beasley looked like a better fit. Fans and media were torn between Rose, and Beasley. Thank god GM John Paxson took Rose.
They said he would have to much pressure playing in his home town. They said he would be destracted. They said he could not run the point in his rookie year. WRONG!
Derrick Rose is a freak.I have watched a few games in my 46 years, and i tell you i have never seen the explosiveness, quickness, and decision making ability, this kid has. When people say he has "it" Whatever "it" is, he has that.
So do not be shocked NBA followers about what Derrick Rose is doing.He is mature, grounded, humble...and most of all hungry for a title. And you know what the scary part is? he is only 20 years old....and only going to get better and better! |
